Ambuja Cements has become the first cement company to join the Alliance for Industry Decarbonisation (AFID), a global platform for sharing insights among stakeholders in energy-intensive sectors. The company aims to achieve Net Zero by 2050, with targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Ambuja plans to invest INR 100 billion in renewable energy projects, including 1GW capacity and 376 MW from Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS), to power 60% of its expanded capacity through green power by FY2028. This initiative will reduce the carbon footprint and offer economic advantages. Ambuja utilized over 8.6 million tonnes of waste-derived resources and became 11x water-positive and 8x plastic-negative in FY24. The AFID, coordinated by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), aims to facilitate industry-level dialogue and cooperation to develop solid decarbonisation strategies aligned with national commitments.
