Bank Employees Likely to Get 5-Day Work Week by December 2024: Reports
Bank employees in India are likely to transition to a 5-day work week by December 2024, pending final approval from the government. An agreement has already been signed between the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and employee unions. Currently, bank branches are closed on second and fourth Saturdays, in addition to Sundays. The proposed change will see branches closed on all Saturdays and Sundays. To ensure customer service hours are not reduced, working hours will be extended by approximately 40 minutes each day. The move is expected to boost productivity, enhance efficiency, and reduce work-related stress among bank employees. The proposal has been in discussion since 2015, and its approval is anticipated to improve the overall well-being of bank employees and the efficiency of the banking sector2.
