BEML secures land in Chhattisgarh to set up heavy earth moving equipment manufacturing facility
BEML has secured 250 acres in Chhattisgarh to establish a INR 1,200 crore heavy earth moving equipment manufacturing facility. The defense PSU's new plant will produce dump trucks, dozers and excavators for mining and infrastructure sectors, reducing import dependence. Scheduled for 2027 completion, the facility will have 5,000 units annual capacity and create 800 direct jobs. BEML chose Chhattisgarh for its mineral-rich hinterland and proximity to steel plants. The investment aligns with India's push for self-reliance in heavy machinery, with 60% indigenous content targeted initially. The state government offered 15-year tax concessions and infrastructure support. This expansion complements BEML's existing plants in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu amid growing demand from coal and iron ore mining sectors.
