Bharti Airtel In Talks To Acquire Tata Play In Digital TV Offerings Push
Bharti Airtel is in advanced talks to acquire Tata Play, aiming to strengthen its presence in the digital TV segment and enhance its bundled offerings. Tata Sons currently owns 70% of Tata Play after acquiring Temasek Holdings’ 10% stake for INR 835 Cr. The acquisition is expected to be valued similarly to the Temasek deal. This move is part of Airtel’s strategy to boost non-mobile revenues through convergence and compete with Jio’s aggressive market strategies. The acquisition would mark Tata’s exit from its sub-scale content and entertainment operations.
