CBDT Revises Form 27EQ: TCS Applicable on Luxury Items including Sale of Yacht, Home Theater
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has revised Form 27EQ, which deals with the collection of Tax Collected at Source (TCS), and has expanded its applicability to include luxury items such as the sale of yachts and home theater systems. This revision is an extension of the earlier amendment that brought luxury goods and collectibles under the TCS net. By specifically including high-value items like yachts and sophisticated home entertainment systems, the CBDT aims to further enhance tax collection from affluent transactions. Sellers of these items will now be responsible for collecting TCS at the prescribed rates and reporting these transactions in the updated Form 27EQ. This measure is part of the government's efforts to broaden the tax base and track high-value economic activities.
