The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has urged taxpayers with foreign income or assets to rectify discrepancies in their income tax returns by December 31, 2024. Using the Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) system, the CBDT has identified gaps in taxpayers’ returns and is encouraging voluntary compliance. Detailed guidance notes have been issued to assist taxpayers in amending their returns. The CBDT aims to surpass the government’s direct tax collection target of ₹22 lakh crore for the fiscal year, attributing this success to robust economic growth and proactive compliance. This initiative underscores the importance of voluntary compliance and taxpayer engagement.
