Child Protection Policy And Juvenile Justice Rules Likely To Be Notified This Year: Assam Govt Tells High Court
The Gauhati High Court urged the Assam government to expedite the notification of the Child Protection Policy and Juvenile Justice Rules, which have been pending since the Juvenile Justice Act was enacted in 2015. The court was hearing a PIL filed by Bachpan Bachao Andolan, highlighting the lack of Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs) in several districts. The court directed the state to submit a report on the constitution of JJBs and the tenure of their members. The court expressed hope that the state would finalize and notify the policy and rules by the end of the year to ensure the protection and care of children in conflict with the law.
