A District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Chandigarh imposed a ?19,000 fine on MakeMyTrip and Go First airlines for disrupting a family’s Thailand trip due to flight rescheduling. The complainant booked tickets through MakeMyTrip for a Go First flight from New Delhi to Phuket, which was cancelled and rescheduled multiple times, causing the family to miss part of their holiday. The Commission held both MakeMyTrip and Go First liable under the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, for the inconvenience and financial loss suffered by the complainant. MakeMyTrip argued it was merely an intermediary, while Go First did not appear for the hearings. The Commission emphasized that both entities were responsible for providing the service as per the rules, and their failure to do so warranted the penalty.
