The Delhi High Court has ordered the blocking of 60 rogue websites that were streaming Zee Entertainment content without authorization. The court granted interim relief to Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, directing domain name registrars to suspend the registration of these websites and disclose their details. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) were also instructed to block access to these sites. Zee had sought a permanent injunction against these websites for piracy and infringement of its copyright and broadcast reproduction rights. The court found that Zee had a prima facie case for an injunction, as the unauthorized streaming was causing irreparable loss. The court also allowed Zee to inform authorities about additional infringing websites discovered during the proceedings. If a non-infringing website is mistakenly blocked, it can approach the court with an undertaking that it does not intend to engage in unauthorized streaming of Zee’s content. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on March 7, 2025.
