The quality control order (QCO) on cookware, utensils, and cans for foods and beverages was initially issued to cut imports of sub-standard goods and promote domestic manufacturing. The DPIIT’s new relaxations include exemptions for very small micro-enterprises registered under the Udyam portal, where the investment in plant and machinery does not exceed ₹25 lakh, and turnover does not exceed ₹2 crore.
