Finance Ministry Amends GST Recruitment Rules 2024: OBC Inclusion & Qualification Relaxation

The Ministry of Finance has amended the GST Council Secretariat, Group ‘A’ Executive Posts Recruitment Rules, 2018, through Notification No. 109 dated October 16, 2024. The amendments include the inclusion of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) under rule 7, aligning their representation with Scheduled Tribes (ST), promoting diversity and inclusivity. Additionally, the qualification requirements for the posts of Director, Deputy Secretary, and Under Secretary have been relaxed, replacing the phrase “is necessary” with “is not necessary.” These changes aim to widen the talent pool and ensure more equitable access to high-ranking executive posts within the GST Council Secretariat. The amendments reflect the government’s efforts to streamline administrative processes and promote more inclusive recruitment standards.
