Firecracker Ban: Delhi High Court Directs Licensed Dealers To "Strictly Refrain" From Making Sales Until January 01
The Delhi High Court directed licensed firework dealers to refrain from selling firecrackers in the national capital until January 01, 2025. The order came in response to a plea by the Delhi Fire Works Shopkeepers Association, challenging the Delhi Government’s notification imposing a blanket ban on the manufacturing, storage, and sale of firecrackers. The court observed that the ban was necessary to address air pollution concerns. The Association argued that the ban unfairly penalized licensed dealers who were operating within the legal framework. The court, however, emphasized that the ban was essential for public health and safety. The court directed the Association to submit a list of licensed premises where fireworks are stored and ordered the sealing of these premises to prevent any sales during the ban period. The ruling highlights the court’s commitment to addressing environmental and public health issues.
