GAIL signs MoU with Karnataka Government to develop 1 GW RE
GAIL has signed an MoU with Karnataka government to develop 1 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030 with INR 5,200 crore investment. The state-run gas major will set up solar, wind and hybrid projects across 3,000 acres in drought-prone districts. This supports GAIL's target of 5 GW renewable portfolio by 2030 while aiding Karnataka's energy transition goals. The partnership includes skill development programs for local communities and preferential power supply to state industries. GAIL will leverage its existing pipeline infrastructure for renewable energy integration. The projects are expected to create 1,200 direct jobs and offset 1.8 million tons of CO2 annually. This marks GAIL's largest state-level renewable commitment as it diversifies beyond core gas business.
