Punjab's Goods and Services Tax (GST) authorities have successfully detected a massive and intricate bogus billing scam amounting to ₹1549 crore. The fraudulent operation involved a network of approximately 250 fictitious firms that were created solely for the purpose of claiming fraudulent input tax credit. This illegal network spanned across multiple states, utilizing forged documents and engaging in circular trading practices to systematically evade GST. As a result of the investigation, authorities have made 12 arrests so far, indicating the scale and severity of the fraudulent activity uncovered.
