Gujarat High Court Seeks Collector's Report On 'Hard Reality' Of Rural Health Facilities After Pregnant Woman Dies On Way To Ambulance
The Gujarat High Court has called for a report from the concerned Collector on the “hard reality” of rural health facilities after a pregnant woman died on her way to an ambulance due to the lack of a proper road. The court took suo motu cognizance of the incident, where the woman, a resident of Turkheda village in Chhota Udaipur district, was carried on a cloth stretcher by villagers for 5 kilometers to reach an ambulance pickup point. The woman went into labor during the journey, delivered a baby girl, and died shortly after. The court emphasized the need for infrastructure connectivity in remote tribal villages to ensure timely medical assistance. The court also highlighted the disparity between the state’s development projects and the lack of basic health facilities in tribal areas, urging the state to address these issues urgently.
