New Criminal Laws Will Take Effect From July 1 : Union Law Minister
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal affirmed that the Central Government will implement new criminal laws, replacing the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Evidence Act, from July 1, 2024. These laws—Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Act—were passed by Parliament in December 2023 and received presidential assent the same month. \r
Despite concerns raised by Senior Advocate Indira Jaising and others, the government has decided to proceed with the scheduled implementation date.
