No Regular Hearing Matters To Be Listed On Tuesdays-Thursdays In Supreme Court, Only After-Notice Misc Matters
The Supreme Court of India, under Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, has issued a new notification altering the schedule for hearing cases. Regular hearing matters will no longer be listed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Instead, these days will be reserved for miscellaneous matters in which notice has been issued, including bail matters and transfer petitions. Special bench or part-heard matters will be heard during the post-lunch session, subject to the directions of the competent authority. This change aims to reduce the pendency of cases at the Supreme Court, which currently stands at over 83,000. The notification is part of the first major reform undertaken by CJI Khanna since taking office. The new arrangement will continue until further orders. This decision reflects an effort to streamline the court’s functioning and ensure more efficient handling of cases, particularly those requiring immediate attention.
