Punjab & Haryana HC Sets Aside Non-Bailable Warrant Issued Against News Anchor Syed Sohail In POCSO Case
The Punjab and Haryana High Court set aside a non-bailable warrant issued against news anchor Syed Sohail in a POCSO case. The court observed that the issuance of the non-bailable warrant was improper, as Sohail had been facing charges related to sexual offenses under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. His lawyers contended that the warrant had been issued without proper notice, and he was cooperating with the investigation. The court stressed that due process must be followed in such cases, and a non-bailable warrant cannot be issued unless there are justifiable reasons. It ruled that the trial court should have granted him an opportunity for hearing before passing such a harsh order.
