Supreme Court To Launch Live-Streaming Of Regular Hearings In All Benches
The Supreme Court of India is set to launch live-streaming of regular hearings across all its benches. This initiative follows a successful test run on October 18, 2024, where proceedings were streamed live on the Court’s own application. Previously, only constitution bench matters and hearings of public importance were live-streamed. The move aims to enhance transparency and public access to judicial proceedings, aligning with the 2018 judgment in Swapnil Tripathi v. Supreme Court of India, which advocated for virtual access to courtrooms. The official launch date is yet to be announced, but this step marks a significant shift towards open courts, allowing the public to witness regular court proceedings.
