Tata Electronics To Buy Majority Stake In Pegatron’s TN iPhone Plant
Tata Electronics has agreed to acquire a 60% stake in Pegatron’s iPhone manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu. The deal, forming a joint venture, will see Tata managing daily operations while Pegatron retains a 40% stake and provides technical support. This acquisition strengthens Tata’s position as an Apple supplier and enhances its iPhone manufacturing capabilities in India. The Tamil Nadu plant, with around 10,000 employees, has a production capacity of five million iPhones annually. The move aligns with Apple’s strategy to diversify its supply chain beyond China amid geopolitical tensions. Tata already operates an iPhone assembly plant in Karnataka and is developing another facility in Hosur. The acquisition will require approval from the Competition Commission of India.
