Intellectual Property Rights Services

Intellectual property services in India — trademark, copyright, patent and design registration, hearings, infringement action and IP transfers by IP experts.

Intellectual Property Rights protect what makes a business distinctive — its brand, creative work, inventions, product designs and confidential know-how. Registering and enforcing them turns ideas into assets that can be licensed, sold or defended against copying.

WCP's verified IP advocates search and file applications with the Indian IP Office, respond to examination reports and oppositions, represent clients at hearings, and take action against infringement — or draft assignments and licences when IP changes hands.

What is covered:

  • Trademark registration
  • Copyright registration
  • Patent registration
  • Industrial design registration
  • Trade secret protection
  • IPR hearings and oppositions
  • IP infringement action and IP transfers

Since the Intellectual Property Appellate Board was abolished in 2021, appeals against IP Office decisions go to the High Courts.

Frequently asked questions

What is the trademark registration fee in India?
₹4,500 per class for individuals, startups and small enterprises filing online, and ₹9,000 per class for others.
How long does trademark registration take?
Usually 12–24 months if there are no objections or oppositions; you can use the ™ symbol from filing and ® after registration.
Is copyright registration mandatory?
No. Copyright exists automatically, but registration gives prima facie evidence of ownership, which helps in enforcement.
How long does a patent last?
Twenty years from the filing date, subject to payment of annual renewal fees.
Can trade secrets be registered?
No. Trade secrets are protected through confidentiality agreements, access controls and contract and equity law, not registration.
Where do IP appeals go now?
To the High Courts, since the Tribunals Reforms Act, 2021 abolished the Intellectual Property Appellate Board.
