Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) reports that 223 state government-owned buildings owe Rs 82.25 crore in holding taxes. Defaulters include government offices, educational institutions, and public sector undertakings, with Heavy Engineering Corporation (HEC) and Project Bhawan leading, owing Rs 42.31 crore and Rs 13.65 crore, respectively. \r
Despite notices, no action has been taken by defaulters. RMC, empowered by the Municipal Act, can auction properties with unpaid taxes and freeze accounts. Discounts of 10%, 7.5%, and 5% are offered for online, public centre, and tax collector payments, respectively. \r
A maximum 10% discount is available for lump-sum payments by June 30 for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.
