The Hurun India Future Unicorn Index 2024 revealed a stark reflection of India’s startup funding challenges, as 25 startups dropped out while three achieved unicorn status. Notable exclusions from the list included Rapido, Koo, Dunzo, and Gaana. Zepto, InCred Finance, and Porter successfully attained unicorn status in 2023 and 2024. \r
The index, which identifies potential unicorns valued at $1 billion or more, now features 152 Indian startups across 31 cities, down from 157 in 2023. Economic slowdown, inflated valuations pre-2021, and setbacks like those faced by Byju's have compounded the challenges.\r
Venture capital firm Peak XV Partners leads with 47 investments, followed by Accel and Tiger Global Management with 25 and 21 investments respectively.
