Actor Ranya Rao under Income Tax Questioning for 3 Days under Gold Smuggling Allegations

Kannada actor Ranya Rao is being questioned by the Income Tax Department in connection with a gold smuggling case. A special court for economic offenses has granted the IT department permission to interrogate the actor for three days inside the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru, where she is currently incarcerated. The interrogation is being videographed as per the court's directive. Rao was arrested in March 2025 for allegedly attempting to smuggle 14.8 kg of gold, valued at over Rs 12.5 crore, from Dubai. The Income Tax Department is now probing the financial aspects of the case, specifically focusing on the source of the funds used to purchase the smuggled gold. The investigation aims to uncover the larger financial network and identify any potential accomplices involved in the smuggling operation, along with any associated tax evasion.
