Surya Kant J. of the Supreme Court of India emphasised that while artificial intelligence (AI) can assist in legal research, drafting and case-management, the human lawyer and judge must remain the ultimate decision-makers. He cautioned against over-reliance on AI, pointing out risks of algorithmic bias, “hallucinations” and lack of explainability, and stressed the core elements of legal practice — client confidentiality, integrity of data, privileged communication — must be preserved.
