Airtel approaches Jio, VIL on joint telecom initiative against fraud
Airtel has proposed a joint initiative with Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea to collaboratively combat escalating telecom fraud and scams. Citing alarming data—over 1.7 million cybercrime complaints and more than ₹11,000 crore in financial losses in India during the first nine months of 2024—Airtel emphasized the urgent need for industry-wide cooperation. The company, which is already deploying fraud detection solutions, advocated for real-time fraud intelligence sharing and cross-network coordination among telcos. This proposal builds on Airtel's previous suggestion in October 2024 for a collaborative approach to address Unsolicited Commercial Communications (UCC), including sharing corporate connection details and establishing a centralized data platform. The initiative aims to enhance the collective ability to detect, prevent, and mitigate telecom fraud.
