Allahabad HC Asks UOI About Status Of BJP Worker's Representation To Home Ministry To Cancel Rahul Gandhi's Indian Citizenship
The Bombay High Court has directed a Mumbai-based law college to admit Mahesh Raut, an accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, to its LLB course. The court emphasized that imprisonment does not restrict an individual’s right to pursue education. Raut, who is lodged in Taloja Jail, had cleared the Common Entrance Test (CET) and was allotted a seat in Siddharth Law College. Despite this, the college and the University of Mumbai argued against his admission, citing attendance requirements. The court, however, ruled that denying Raut admission would violate his fundamental right to education. The decision underscores the judiciary’s role in ensuring that fundamental rights are upheld, even for those incarcerated.
