Appellate Tribunal Quashes ED Attachment Of NCP Leader Praful Patel's Properties
An Appellate Tribunal in Delhi overturned the attachment orders of properties belonging to Nationalist Congress Party leader Praful Patel, his wife, and his company in a money laundering case, along with the Adjudicating Authority's confirmation of the provisional attachment. \r
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had provisionally attached seven properties worth Rs. 180 crores, alleging they were proceeds of crime acquired from the wife of late underworld gangster Iqbal Mirchi. The Tribunal ruled that the Patels were not named in the FIR against Mirchi and lacked any connection to his crimes. It highlighted that the properties were transferred through judicial decree, voiding claims of money laundering involvement, and criticized double attachment against legal principles. \r
Therefore, the attachment of the properties was deemed inappropriate and unlawful.
