Bar Council of India directs Criminal Background Check, Strict Disciplinary Precautions for Law Students
The Bar Council of India (BCI) has introduced stringent measures to ensure the integrity of law students entering the legal profession. These measures include mandatory criminal background checks, biometric attendance, and the installation of CCTVs in all law institutes. Students must disclose any involvement in criminal activities, including FIRs, convictions, or acquittals, before receiving their final marksheets and degrees. Additionally, students are prohibited from pursuing more than one regular degree program simultaneously and must declare their employment status, ensuring they are not engaged in any employment without a valid No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer. Compliance with attendance requirements is also mandated. Institutions failing to enforce these measures will face disciplinary actions. The BCI’s objective is to uphold ethical standards by ensuring that law students maintain the highest levels of honesty and accountability. This initiative aims to foster a transparent and trustworthy legal profession.
