The Bombay High Court has granted interim relief to the popular pub chain, "Social," in a trademark infringement case it had filed against another establishment named "Social Tribe." The court passed an interim injunction, which temporarily restrains "Social Tribe" from using a name or mark that is deceptively similar to the "Social" brand. The Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality, which owns the "Social" chain, had argued that the name "Social Tribe" was causing confusion among consumers and was an attempt to ride on the goodwill and reputation of their well-established brand. The High Court's decision to grant interim relief indicates that it found a prima facie case in favor of the "Social" pub chain. The injunction will remain in effect until the court hears the matter in full and passes a final judgment.
