Bribe for passing favourable Orders: CBI arrests CGST Assistant Commissioner
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested R. Chandramouli, an Assistant Commissioner of CGST, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh to pass favorable orders in a GST evasion case. The arrest followed a complaint that Chandramouli had demanded the bribe from a businessman for settling an investigation against his firm. The CBI laid a trap, and the official was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe. Following the arrest, the CBI conducted searches at Chandramouli's premises, leading to the recovery of incriminating documents and cash. The CBI has registered a case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. This incident underscores the ongoing issue of corruption within tax authorities and the vigilance of anti-corruption agencies in combating such practices.
