Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in Budget 2024-25 that starting October 1, 2024, quoting Aadhaar Enrolment ID will be discontinued in place of Aadhaar numbers in PAN applications and income tax returns. This change is due to the increased coverage of Aadhaar, reducing the need for Enrolment IDs, which could lead to PAN duplication and misuse. Individuals who received PANs using Enrolment IDs must update their Aadhaar numbers by a specified date.
