Capacity Building In Forensic Sciences Necessary To Effectively Implement BNSS Provisions: Calcutta High Court
The Calcutta High Court emphasized the necessity of enhancing forensic science capabilities to effectively implement Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) provisions. Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Biswaroop Chowdhury highlighted the inadequacy of current forensic science laboratories (FSLs) in meeting the demands posed by BNSS, which mandates forensic examinations in serious crimes and mandatory medical examinations in rape cases. The court noted the National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG) lacks training in criminal forensic samples, urging government departments to address this issue for better forensic support.
