The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has initiated a new measure to collect monthly price reports on 54 essential goods. This follows recent GST rate cuts and aims to ensure that the benefits are passed on to consumers. The CBIC has instructed its field formations to monitor and compile commodity-wise price data from trade associations and local markets. The reports, to be submitted to the Board by the 20th of each month for the next six months, will compare prices before and after the GST rate changes. This directive, aligning with the government's anti-profiteering stance, is a proactive step to prevent businesses from retaining the tax cut benefits instead of making goods more affordable for the general public.
