The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has dismissed allegations of abuse of dominance against two of India's largest metal producers, Hindalco and Vedanta. The complaint was filed by a copper products manufacturer who alleged that these companies were engaging in anti-competitive practices in the market for the supply of continuous cast copper rods. The informant accused them of charging excessive prices and creating unfair market conditions. However, after a detailed investigation, the CCI found that there was no prima facie evidence to suggest any abuse of a dominant position. The commission concluded that the market was competitive, with other players and import options available, and that the pricing by Hindalco and Vedanta was dictated by market forces, including global prices on the London Metal Exchange. Therefore, the CCI closed the case, finding no violation of the Competition Act.
