Central Govt imposes ADD on Acetonitrile for 5 Years
The Central Government has imposed an anti-dumping duty (ADD) on the import of Acetonitrile from China, Iran, and the USA for a period of five years. Acetonitrile is a crucial chemical solvent used primarily in the pharmaceutical industry for the manufacturing of various active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and medicines. The decision to impose the duty was based on the findings of an investigation by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR). The investigation concluded that the chemical was being dumped into the Indian market at prices below its normal value, which was causing material injury to the domestic industry. The anti-dumping duty will make the imports more expensive, thereby providing a level playing field for domestic producers and protecting them from the adverse effects of unfair trade practices.
