Central Govt imposes Anti-Dumping Duty on Aluminium Foil Imports from China
The Indian government has imposed an anti-dumping duty on the import of aluminium foil of certain specifications from China. This measure is intended to protect the domestic industry from the adverse effects of unfairly priced imports. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) had conducted an investigation after receiving a complaint from domestic manufacturers. The probe found that aluminium foil was being exported from China to India at a price below its normal value, a practice known as dumping. This was causing material injury to the Indian producers, impacting their profitability and market share. The anti-dumping duty, which will be in effect for five years, will increase the cost of imported Chinese aluminium foil, thereby creating a more level playing field and allowing the domestic industry to compete on fair terms.
