Centre Flags off GST Bachat Utsav: PM Narendra Modi & FM Nirmala Sitharaman Meet with Vendors for Feedback
The Government of India launched the "GST Bachat Utsav," marking the nationwide rollout of next-generation GST reforms aimed at reducing household expenses and boosting savings. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman interacted with traders and shopkeepers to gather feedback on the new reforms. The reforms introduce a two-rate GST structure of 5% and 18%, with essential items like food, medicines, soaps, toothpaste, and insurance either exempted or brought under the 5% slab. The government anticipates that these changes, combined with income tax cuts, could result in savings of nearly ₹2.5 lakh crore for citizens. PM Modi emphasized the importance of supporting Made in India products, highlighting the benefits for local artisans, workers, and small industries. The initiative is positioned as a national festival of savings, aiming to empower every section of society, including farmers, workers, traders, MSMEs, and the middle class.
