Chandigarh State Commission Holds 24 Seven Liable For Charging Extra Money For Promotional Carry Bags
The Chandigarh State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission held the convenience store chain '24 Seven' liable for charging customers extra money for carry bags displaying the store's logo. The commission found this practice to be an unfair trade practice and a deficiency in service. The decision came after a customer, Jaspreet Singh, filed a complaint when he was charged for carry bags during his purchase. The court ruled that sellers must bear the cost of packaging under Section 35(5) of the Sale of Goods Act, and promotional bags should not incur an extra charge. The company was ordered to refund the charges and pay compensation.
