Chhattisgarh High Court Seeks Response From DGP Over Idle ‘Dial 112’ Vehicles Worth ₹40 Crores
The Chhattisgarh High Court, while hearing a Public Interest Litigation, expressed concern over the non-utilization of nearly 300 ‘Dial 112’ vehicles, valued at ₹40 crores, which have been lying idle since 2021. The Bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Rajani Dubey noted that despite the purpose of the Dial 112 project being rapid response for law-and-order and emergencies, the vehicles were parked unused. The petitioner highlighted wastage of public funds and failure of governance in ensuring citizens’ access to immediate police help. The Court directed the Director General of Police to file a detailed response, explaining the reasons for keeping such costly resources idle and clarifying steps taken to operationalize the project. The Court stressed that taxpayer money cannot be squandered through administrative inaction and emphasized accountability in public projects intended for citizen welfare. The matter was adjourned for compliance.
