From July 1, significant changes in India's criminal laws will be ushered in by the introduction of three new enactments: the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). \r
These reforms streamline and update the legal framework, replacing sections from the colonial-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), and Indian Evidence Act. For instance, murder, previously under IPC Section 302, will now be covered by Section 101, while cheating, previously under Section 420, will fall under Section 318. \r
These changes reflect a modernization effort to adapt to current societal and legal needs, addressing crimes ranging from sedition to assault under revised and updated statutes.
