In May, overall deal activity declined by 3% to USD 5.023 billion compared to April's USD 5.192 billion, with mergers and acquisitions plummeting by 58% to USD 1.05 billion while private equity deal values surged by 49% to USD 3.973 billion. \r
Despite the decrease in volume by 22% to 137 deals, the election process likely contributed to the delay in deal-making, according to Grant Thornton Bharat. The largest merger and acquisition deal was Google's USD 350 million investment in Flipkart Online Services, while Brookfield India Real Estate Trust's USD 723 million investment in Bharti Enterprises' assets led in private equity.
