Taking suo motu cognizance of Delhi’s severe air pollution, the Supreme Court asked the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to consider restricting outdoor sports and physical activities in schools. The Court noted that children are the most vulnerable to toxic air and directed authorities to prioritize their health. It reiterated that clean air is an essential part of the right to life under Article 21. The bench expressed dissatisfaction with slow implementation of pollution-control measures, including vehicle restrictions, industrial compliance, and construction dust management. The Court also stressed the need for sustained, long-term measures instead of seasonal responses.
