Disputes Involving Fraud, Other Complex Matters Can't Be Discussed By Consumer Fora: NCDRC
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has reiterated that consumer forums are not the appropriate venue for adjudicating disputes that involve complex questions of fraud or other intricate matters that require elaborate evidence. The commission observed that its proceedings are summary in nature, designed for quick resolution of straightforward consumer complaints. When a case involves serious allegations of fraud, forgery, or requires a detailed examination of voluminous documents and witnesses, it is better suited for a regular civil court, which is equipped to handle such complex trials. By taking this stance, the NCDRC ensures that the summary procedure of the consumer courts is not bogged down by cases that demand a full-fledged trial, thereby maintaining the efficiency of the consumer grievance redressal system for its intended purpose.
