Don't Make Mockery Of Justice' : Supreme Court Rebukes NIA For 4-Year Delay In Trial; Says Accused Has Right To Speedy Trial
The Supreme Court of India criticized the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for delaying the trial of an accused, stressing the constitutional right to a speedy trial. The bench, led by Justice Krishna Murari, expressed dissatisfaction over the NIA's repeated adjournment requests, deeming them unacceptable. The court emphasized that such delays mock the justice system and violate Article 21, which guarantees the right to life and personal liberty, including a speedy trial. The court directed the trial court to proceed with the case without further delays and ensure a fair and expeditious trial. The bench also warned the NIA against employing delaying tactics and insisted on the importance of maintaining the integrity of the judicial process.
