The East Delhi Advocates' Forum has written to the Finance Minister, seeking a one-time extension of the time limit for filing the first appeals under the GST law. The lawyers' body has highlighted the various difficulties being faced by taxpayers and tax professionals in filing their first appeals before the Commissioner (Appeals) within the stipulated deadline. These difficulties could be related to technical issues on the GST portal, the complexity of the law, or other practical challenges. The forum has requested the government to consider a one-time amnesty or an extension of the deadline to provide relief to a large number of taxpayers who may have missed the filing window for genuine reasons. This would allow them to have their cases heard on merits, rather than being dismissed on the grounds of a time bar.
