The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in Ranchi has provisionally attached 62 immovable properties worth Rs 9.67 Crore belonging to Md. Ezhar Ansari under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The ED’s investigation, based on an FIR by Jharkhand Police, revealed that Ansari misused the coal linkages policy by diverting 86,568 MT of subsidized coal meant for Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and selling it in the open market for Rs 71.32 Crore. The investigation also uncovered that 13 SME firms were non-operational or nonexistent. The ED seized Rs 3.68 Crore in cash during searches, and Ansari was arrested on January 16, 2024. A Prosecution Complaint was filed on March 15, 2024, and the court took cognizance on March 18, 2024.
