Lawyers appointed by the liquidators of China Evergrande Group are investigating the company's former auditor PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and other service providers to potentially recover losses for creditors, sources familiar with the matter said. \r
Evergrande, once China's largest property developer, is undergoing liquidation after failing to restructure its $23 billion offshore debt. Hong Kong-based law firm Karas So is collaborating with court-appointed liquidators Tiffany Wong and Eddie Middleton from Alvarez and Marsal (A&M). \r
The investigation aims to uncover evidence of wrongdoing and negligence that may have contributed to Evergrande's default. PwC, currently under scrutiny for alleged revenue overstatement at Evergrande's unit Hengda, faces potential legal actions amid regulatory fines and probes in China and Hong Kong.
