Ex-Union Minister Maneka Gandhi Moves Allahabad HC Challenging Election Of SP's RB Nishad As Sultanpur MP
Maneka Gandhi has filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court challenging the election of Samajwadi Party MP Ram Bhuwal Nishad from Sultanpur. Nishad defeated Gandhi by over 43,000 votes in the 2024 elections. Gandhi alleges Nishad failed to disclose four out of twelve pending criminal cases in his nomination form, which she claims constitutes corrupt practices under the Representation of People Act, 1951. She argues that this non-disclosure materially affected the election outcome, seeking Nishad's election be declared void.
