Finance Ministry Updates Harmonized Master List of Infrastructure Sub-sectors: Inclusion of 'Large Ships' in Transport and Logistics
The Ministry of Finance, Department of Economic Affairs, has notified an updated Harmonized Master List of Infrastructure Sub-sectors, amending the previous list dated 11 October 2022. The primary addition is the inclusion of 'Large Ships' under the Transport and Logistics category, reflecting the growing significance of maritime infrastructure in India's economic landscape. The revised list categorizes infrastructure into sectors such as Transport and Logistics, Energy, Water and Sanitation, Communication, and Social and Commercial Infrastructure, each with specific sub-sectors. For instance, the Transport and Logistics sector encompasses roads and bridges, ports, shipyards, large ships, inland waterways, airports, railway infrastructure, and urban public transport, among others. The Energy sector includes electricity generation, transmission, and distribution, as well as oil, gas, and LNG storage facilities. Water and Sanitation covers solid waste management, water treatment plants, sewage systems, and irrigation infrastructure. The Communication sector comprises telecommunication networks, towers, services, and data centers. Social and Commercial Infrastructure includes education institutions, sports infrastructure, hospitals, tourism facilities, industrial parks, affordable housing, and cold chain logistics. This comprehensive classification aims to provide uniformity in recognizing, financing, and identifying infrastructure projects under applicable policies, thereby facilitating streamlined investments and development in these critical sectors.
